In the municipality of Guarne, Quimicolor has inaugurated the first high-speed plant in South America dedicated to the production of nonwoven fabrics in rolls, specifically using Spunlace technology. The new facility represents an investment of $9.8 million and marks a milestone in the surgical gauze and wet wipes production sector.
The plant, equipped with the Andritz machine, has the capacity to produce up to 10,000 tons of nonwoven fabric per year. This advancement not only optimizes costs by reducing dependence on imports from Asia, but also contributes to reducing the company's carbon footprint by avoiding long-distance transportation of raw materials.
Antonio Mendivil, president of Quimicolor, emphasized that the new plant allows the company to achieve complete independence in the acquisition of its main raw materials, strengthening the supply chain and guaranteeing the quality and availability of its products. Furthermore, sales growth of 25% in Q3 and a 30% increase in job creation are expected for the second half of the year.
The plant, which occupies 2,600 square meters, will process viscose and polyester fibers and will begin operating at 35% of its capacity, with plans to expand production and explore new markets in Latin America. This project has been partially financed by a seven-year loan from Bpifrance, along with investments from the company and national banks, and will generate between 40 and 50 new jobs.
The investment in Spunlace technology, previously available only in Brazil, places Quimicolor in a significant competitive position within the Latin American market, opening up new export opportunities and strengthening its presence in the region.
